recommended by my mortgage adviser on the basis that pensions and retirement planning was specialist field and an advisor was required in order not to make any catastrophic mistakes.

Proactive In-depth review of my situation and objectives and development of a strategy ( involving maximising use of tax free cash and investment changes ) to achieve them .

Yes, very much so to the extent that having retired I will not need to access my pension for several years and the projection is that it will last for decades .
